Smart Gardening, the PBS Television Deries, is Seeking Corporate Sponsors. Smart Gardening is a High Definition Gardening Program in its Second Season that is Airing Nationwide, Quickly Becoming a Premier and Trusted Source of Gardening Information for a Mass Audience.
September 5, 2004 -- Chambers Productions offers an underwriting opportunity for the 26 episode 2005 season of Smart Gardening, a thirty-minute magazine-style program broadcast in standard and high definition on public television stations across the nation.
Attractiveness of this PBS opportunity:
• High definition audiences are growing and have large amounts of discretionary income.
• Smart Gardening has been aired in prime time evening slots on many major market high definition channels. This impression is a very high quality impression.
• PBS viewers believe that companies that underwrite are industry leaders. Viewers watch the underwriting credits, can recall the names of underwriters and are predisposed to reward the underwriter with loyalty when they shop. We have had viewers personally thank our underwriters for their support of Smart Gardening.
Target market for underwriting:
• The Lawn and Garden industry is the most logical companies that would get the benefit of a highly targeted demographic and the quality of the PBS audience.
• Home Improvement companies looking to extend their reach to related markets would be the next most likely.
Changes in 2005 season:
• 26 new episodes vs. 13 in 2004 season with broader geographic coverage.
• Strengthening / deepening content based in science. To accomplish this we have dropped the studio portion of the show and enhanced our relationships with Oregon State University and other land grants. We taped stories at Ohio State and with Michigan State University.
• Changed host from Asha Blake to Deanna Connell. Deanna is a master gardener and Oregon State University graduate.
Offer:
• Twenty-six new episodes to begin airing in January with most stations repeating the series at least once.
• Two 15-second underwriting credits per episode. The underwriting credit will appear along with three other underwriters near the beginning and the end of every episode. Each episode is licensed to air multiple times in each market.
In addition to the 15 second underwriting credit that appears twice in each episode, we work hard to design a customized package of benefits to help you accomplish your goals in the marketplace.
For example in the 2004 season, we supported our underwriters by:
• Attending high profile industry trade shows with our on air talent to generate excitement
• Producing promotional tapes from Smart Gardening for their client meetings
• Offering public appearances on the underwriters' behalf
• Using web links to highlight underwriter products
• Hosting a "segment idea" contest for underwriter's retail partners and providing an all expenses paid trip to participate in the taping of Smart Gardening for a day.
We anticipate that carriage and ratings will continue to climb as the show builds momentum, and that January 2005 airings will bring peak audiences and deliver the prized PBS demographic.
